DIRNA Project Summer School

               

IZTECH Library is one of the partners of the ERASMUS+ Project (CBHE) “Developing Research Capacity through Institutional Repositories Network in Azerbaijan - DIRNA” Within the scope of the project, he attended the five-day summer school held in Ganja, Azerbaijan between July 29 - August 2, 2024.

On the first day of the summer school, they started with a special session organized for the Rectors and Vice-Rectors of 8 Azerbaijani Higher Education Institutions. In this session, Gültekin Gürdal, Director of IZTECH Library, and one of the project partners, explained to the university administrators the importance of open science, the key role of OpenAIRE, and the work carried out within the scope of the project. They asked them to support open science studies. 

After the opening session, European Higher Education Institutions provided training to the participants from Azerbaijan Universities for three days. With the participation of 37 participants, the training covered topics such as open access and open science initiatives, metadata quality in institutional repositories, policy-making, research data management, Creative Commons licenses, European Open Science Cloud applications, open publication ethics, and features of institutional repositories. During the training, participants were introduced to OpenAIRE services that they can use in their work. 

On the last two days of the summer school, the participants participated in practice sessions where they had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the training topics. IZTECH Team enabled the participants to create an account and enter data in the trial version of a real institutional archive to better understand institutional archives. On the last day of the meeting, all participating universities drafted an Open Science Policy for their institutions based on the topics discussed in the summer school and made presentations.
